July was such a crazy month! I have been fighting a massive sinus infection for two months now, so I had to stay home for a couple of days. Then Devin had to go to the emergency room because he has a weird virus that made him really sick and he was passing out. Then on the 21st I rear-ended someone in our new truck. All I can say is HOLY COW!
Devin is feeling better from that now but he has a cold now. I am still trying to fight off the sinus infection and I have a cold. I am also trying to get rid of the nasty back and neck pain from the wreck. That was really the only ohysical damage that anyone had, thank goodness we were all wearing our seatbelts. The truck wasn't totaled, but so far we are up to about $19,000 in damage. The guy who is fixing it is the same guy who is building Devin's classic king cab pickup. He is nice, but slightly crazy. He seems to think that he will have the truck done by Teusday of next week and he hasn't even received the parts yet...okay...sure! Our friend D.J. was kind enough to lend us his old Jeep, so at least I have a way to get around and I don't have to bum a ride from my wonderful visiting teacher anymore.
I guess I never really told you all the story of how it happened. I was driving home at lunch to remove a hitch from our camper. There was a Tahoe that had stopped becasue the truck in front of was turning. The owners of the Tahoe had modified the brake lights so they were just three little circles on each side and the covers were yellowed and I just couldn't see their lights. I realized that they were stopped, but not soon enough. Even after I slammed on hte brakes I hit them going about 40mph. They were both fine and suprisingly, their Tahoe did rather well. It just broke out the right rear window and dented the rear doors and their spare tire flew about five feet under my truck. The truck on the other hand wasn't so lucky. The hood in in a shape very much like an "n"or an upside down "u". Bothe headlights were dangling by the wires, the front airbags deployed and shattered the windshield. I was pretty dazed, so I didn't look at it very closely. The lady and her daughter were fine, thank goodness. Th truck put itself into park and put on the hazards upon impact. I wasn't able to even drive it to the side of the road, so I just left it there and hoped that nobody hit it before the cops showed up. I got the ticket, but thankfully it was only $85 for following too close. Overall, I am very grateful that everyone was okay.
And THEN...last Monday my brother Heath was working out on the power lines. The wires were dead, but because of the static in the air the lines pulled in enough power to not only buzz him but pretty much hold him there until his partner pulled one of the wire out of his hand. There was about 8000 volts going through him, which is enough to have killed him. Thankfully he was sweaty enough that the voltage entered his left hand and traveled up his arm, exitedhis armpit and went across his chest, and entered into his right armpit and then down his right arm and throughhis fingertips into the other wire. By skipping along his chest it avoided the vital organs, hence sparing his life. I am so glad that he is okay, well for the most part. He has massive burns on his hands so it limits what he is able to do. He will be home for at least the next couple of weeks at least. I hope and pray that he gets well soon. I love you Heath!
